Cartalax
Also known as AED, Ala-Glu-Asp, H-Ala-Glu-Asp-OH
Cartalax is a synthetic tripeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp (AED), from the Khavinson series of short-peptide bioregulators. It has been studied in aging cell cultures, including skin fibroblasts, mesenchymal stem cells, and chondrocytes.

Overview
Cartalax was developed by Vladimir Khavinson's group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. Its name refers to cartilage, and in chondrocyte studies it has been compared with a cartilage-derived polypeptide complex. PubMed indexes it as the tripeptide Ala-Glu-Asp. Published studies, mostly from the developer's group, are cell-culture experiments that compare AED with related short peptides (KE, KED, AEDG) in replicatively aged cultures. Reported outcomes include changes in markers of proliferation, apoptosis, extracellular matrix remodeling, and sirtuin expression. No controlled human trials are indexed in PubMed.
Class: Synthetic tripeptide (Khavinson short-peptide bioregulator)
Mechanism of action
How the compound acts, as described in the literature.
Proposed by its developers to regulate gene expression as a short peptide able to reach the nucleus. Independent mechanistic confirmation is lacking.
In aging human skin fibroblast cultures, AED lowered MMP-9, raised the proliferation and regeneration markers Ki-67 and CD98hc, and suppressed caspase-3-dependent apoptosis.
In replicatively aged skin fibroblasts, AED increased synthesis of sirtuin-1, sirtuin-6, and collagen I.
In aging mesenchymal stem cell cultures, AED raised IGF1 and NFκB gene expression. In chondrocyte cultures, it was reported to normalize senescence-associated markers such as p16, p21, p53, TNF-α, and IL-1α.

Lin'kova NS, et al. · Bull Exp Biol Med
Compared KE, KED, AED, and AEDG peptides in aging skin fibroblast cultures. All reduced MMP-9 and raised Ki-67 and CD98hc expression; AED and AEDG also suppressed caspase-dependent apoptosis.

PMID 33231794Comparison of the Effects of KE and AED Peptides on Functional Activity of Human Skin Fibroblasts during Their Replicative Aging.
Fridman NV, et al. · Bull Exp Biol Med
In human skin fibroblasts undergoing replicative aging, AED increased synthesis of sirtuin-1, sirtuin-6, and collagen I, while KE peptide mainly reduced the inflammatory factors IL-1, NF-κB, and TGF-β.

Ashapkin V, et al. · Mol Biol Rep
In two aging models of human fetal bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, AED, KED, and KE at nanomolar concentrations raised IGF1 expression 3.5- to 5.6-fold and stimulated NFκB gene expression.
Evidence & safety
What the research does not show, and the adverse events and regulatory status it reports.
Evidence is limited to small cell- and tissue-culture studies, mostly from the developer's group, that measure marker expression rather than functional outcomes, without independent replication. No human trials or human safety data are indexed, and Cartalax is not an approved drug.
